About Jaramogi

My name, Jaramogi, is Kenyan. It is Ki-Swahili for ‘One who travels often’ or ‘Traveler’ for short. As a kid growing up in Brooklyn with no real models for how and where to take my life, I decided if nothing else, perhaps I should live up to my name.

As a teen, I read a lot of fiction allowing stories and my imagination to take me off to far off places. In college, I studied East Asia and minored in Japanese willing myself to take my future self to these places. Out of college, I got a job in International Finance. Still on US soil, but learning more and more about the world through numbers.

Finally, when I hit the age of 30 after two attempts. I was accepted into a global job rotation program that would send me to New Delhi, India for a year followed by London, England for a year. I became the traveler I sought to be. I had finally realized the narrative I wanted for myself. I later spent 4.5 years in Sydney, Australia with a 7-month stint in Singapore.

Filling a void for not giving myself the experience of graduate school, I applied to Stanford Graduate School of business…twice before accepted. What I want to illustrate is some no’s are no’s for a point in time – they’re not permanent. It has been a philosophy that has served me well.

So my goal with you? I would not give you advice that I would not give myself. Nothing I have accomplished happened overnight. It took speaking my desires into the universe and the right ears hearing them. It took ‘becoming the action’ that was the catalyst to my desires becoming realized. It took choice. A discussion about those choices will inform how you look at your future opportunities and seize them.
