MEET the Founder

My name, Jaramogi, is Kenyan. It is Ki-Swahili for ‘One who travels often’ or ‘Traveler’ for short. As a kid growing up in Brooklyn with no real models for how and where to take my life, I decided if nothing else, perhaps I should live up to my name.

As a teen, I read a lot of fiction allowing stories and my imagination to take me off to far off places. In college, I studied East Asia and minored in Japanese willing myself to take my future self to these places. Out of college, I got a job in International Finance. Still on US soil, but learning more and more about the world through numbers.

Finally, when I hit the age of 30 after two attempts. I was accepted into a global job rotation program that would send me to New Delhi, India for a year followed by London, England for a year. I became the traveler I sought to be. I had finally realized the narrative I wanted for myself. I later spent 4.5 years in Sydney, Australia with a 7-month stint in Singapore.

Filling a void for not giving myself the experience of graduate school, I applied to Stanford Graduate School of business…twice before accepted. What I want to illustrate is some no’s are no’s for a point in time – they’re not permanent. It has been a philosophy that has served me well.

So my goal with you? I would not give you advice that I would not give myself. Nothing I have accomplished happened overnight. It took speaking my desires into the universe and the right ears hearing them. It took ‘becoming the action’ that was the catalyst to my desires becoming realized. It took choice. A discussion about those choices will inform how you look at your future opportunities and seize them.

 My Story

I launched my coaching practice in 2021 after a 23-year career in international business management with a focus on people design and operational strategy. Inherent in my career was the ability to build relationships through listening and understanding. Through that understanding, I worked with leaders and teams to execute strategies to improve profitability, streamline processes, remove roadblocks to scaling among many other transformational goals.

Though I had a strong desire to go to business school earlier in my life, the cards did not fall that way. For each time I wanted to move to a campus and sit still to learn, doors for international opportunities arose in its place. In 2006, I moved from New York City to New Delhi, India to work in a Controllership function. A year later, I moved to London to work in Treasury. After a short stint back home in NYC, I accepted a role transforming businesses in Sydney, Australia. During my 4.5 years there, I did a 7-month stint in Singapore as a business planner. Though I did not go to business school during these 8 years, I amassed what I consider to be a global PHD through my career and life experiences.

My initial exposure to coaching came as I acquired mentors and sponsors through my international travel. Likewise, those who took a fascination with what I was doing with my career asked for coaching to see if I had a boilerplate for how I built my career. I didn’t have a blueprint for how to apply my set of experiences to others. But I did have an ear for listening to where they came from and where they wanted to go and connect the two dots with what would be my approach to get there.

This dot-connecting became a centerpiece for my life’s work. In each of my roles, I took on several individuals as mentees to provide insights on how to approach their careers from my advice on how to actively search for no’s to managing your manager to tried and true ways to solicit useful feedback to grow your career.

Perspective and self-awareness are critical components of what I do.

I provide the perspective.

You provide the self-awareness.

From there, growth is always possible.
